The Kingfisher

Fishing along the Dawlish stream

Sometimes a kingfisher flies down-river into the Dawlish area and can be seen fishing along the stream running through the local park. A tiny bird with bright metallic blue wings and coppery-brown chest only slightly larger than the robin - but nearly twice as heavy.  Blink, and you'll miss the stunning flash of turquoise flash past at the speed of light as they dart along the river, looking for fish. They tend to return to the same vantage point several times, usually a branch overhanging the river, making a perched kingfisher somewhat possible to photograph.
